How to Apply for Financial Aid


Step 1: File a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA is used by two and four- year universities to determine what type of federal financial aid is available to you. The FAFSA needs to be filed prior to the start of classes each year if you would like to receive federal financial aid. To fill out a FAFSA, please visit: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ .

Step 2: Complete a TFC Financial Aid Application.
The TFC Financial Aid Application is an in-house form designed to help our financial aid office process your file more efficiently. It contains basic demographic information as well as a declaration of what type of aid you would like to be considered for. You can find this printable file at: TFC Financial Aid Application

Step 3: Complete the HOPE/GTEG Application (GA Residents Only).
HOPE Scholarship: The HOPE Scholarship is designed to recognize exceptional students for their educational achievements. The HOPE Scholarship is designed to assist GA college students by reducing the overall cost of tuition. Georgia Tuition Equalization Grant (GTEG): The GTEG was designed to encourage Georgia residents to attend eligible, private colleges by providing funds to reduce the cost of tuition. To find out the eligibility requirements or any other information, please visit: GTEG Information

To apply for the HOPE and GTEG please create a profile at: GA College 411 Sign In. Once you create a profile, please login and complete the HOPE/GTEG Application. It is the same form for both; so you will just need to fill it out once.

Step 4: Complete any additional paperwork requested by the financial aid office.
In addition to the steps above, students who are selected for verification will be asked to submit additional documents. Requested information may consist of, but is not limited to, U.S. income tax returns, FIA benefits, Social Security benefits, and business income.

Step 6: Complete Student Loan Entrance Counseling.
The student loan entrance counseling is designed to inform students about the various federal loans that may be available to them. This information will help students decide what type of loans will best fit their needs. To begin counseling, please visit: Student Loan Entrance Counseling.

Step 7: Complete the Master Promissory Note for your student loans.
If you decide you would like to cover some of your college tuition with student loans, you may apply for them at: Master Promissory Note.

Step 8: Confirm and submit your Financial Aid Award Letter.
Once all of your financial aid paperwork has been submitted; you will receive a Financial Aid Award Letter. This will come to you by mail or via e-mail. When you receive this letter, please select the appropriate amounts of aid to cover your tuition.

Step 9: Contact the Student Account Office to see if your account is clear.
Once you have submitted your financial aid award letter, you should contact student accounts to make sure there isn’t a balance remaining on your account. If there is, you may need take out an alternative student loan or pay the remaining balance out of pocket.
