The B.S. in Ministry Leadership degree, or LEADS (Leadership Education for Adult Degree Seekers), equips future Christian leaders with the knowledge, skill and character crucial to leadership positions in church and faith-based organizations. This program begins with a Biblical, foundation established in 30 hours of core Bible courses. The Bible core includes classes that cover all the books of the Old and New Testament. In survey courses, you can expect to learn the history, content, and themes of these books, as well as how you can practically apply their message to your life. You will also take at least two theology classes that explore some of the key doctrines found within the teachings of these books. Some doctrines that will be covered are humanity, sin, salvation, redemption, the Trinity, the incarnation, sanctification, and justification.
Once your Bible core has been completed, you will be able to begin the B.S. in Ministry Leadership major classes. It is in these major classes that you will learn how to be both a leader and a teacher. You will learn principles of management such as organizing, planning, making decisions and supervising; and on the human relations side of ministry, you will learn how to network with other Christian ministries, how to construct an effective ministerial team, and how to deal with change and conflict that may arise from societal changes, technology, the economy, and generational differences.
You will also take a Christian Education core of 15 credit hours to help develop your skills as a teacher. In these courses you will learn the various methods of teaching styles that are not the same as delivering a sermon. You will also learn theory and practice of small groups, how to conduct leadership training, and how to cultivate spiritual growth in other people as well as yourself.
